Adult Safeguarding Procedures

1. The Safeguarding Team

The Safeguarding Team are part of Telford and Wrekin's multi-agency Safeguarding Hub and have responsibility for screening all adult safeguarding referrals. The team is made up of a Team Leader, Assistant Team Manager and Social Workers.

Functions of the team include:

  1. Undertake section 42 enquiries for unallocated cases, and cases open to Early Help Practitioners;
  2. Undertake all safeguarding enquiries relating to organisations;
  3. Undertake all safeguarding enquiries relating to Person's in a Position of Trust;
  4. Provide Safeguarding Adults strategic and operational advice across the partnership;
  5. Support & promote the development of Safeguarding Adults practice across the partnership.

The team also support the locality teams with Safeguarding enquiries, offering specialist advice and support when needed. They work with all partner agencies to support Safeguarding enquiries, helping to identify who is the lead agency and ensure that Telford and Wrekin's Safeguarding duties under the Care Act are met.

If you are concerned that an adult or child is in imminent danger from abuse or neglect, or that a criminal act has taken place you should contact the police by dialling 999.

4. Multi-Agency Safeguarding Procedures

The multi-agency safeguarding procedures should be your primary source of support and practice guidance when working in the safeguarding adult's arena.

They set out specifically how the Local Authority works with other organisations in the area, such as the police and the CCG to fulfil the requirements of the Care Act, including how they:

  1. Prevent and protect adults at risk from abuse;
  2. Empower and support adults to make their own choices;
  3. Investigate actual (or suspected) abuse or neglect; and
  4. Support adults who are at risk of, or experiencing abuse or neglect.
