Public Health

Public Health work to improve and protect the health of people in Swindon. This includes providing and commissioning health improvement services; protecting the population from preventable health issues, including those caused by communicable diseases and environmental hazards and promoting vaccination and screening programmes; and supporting health and social care to provide cost effective, efficient and accessible healthcare that meets the population's needs.

Areas include physical activity, weight management, smoking, infant feeding, healthy schools, falls prevention, dementia, sexual health, workplace health, mental health and wellbeing, drugs and alcohol services, NHS Healthchecks, health protection, flu vaccination and long term conditions such as diabetes and COPD. We also use data and information to assess need and plan services, analysing health trends to spot gaps, problems and emerging diseases early.

The team includes the Community Health & Wellbeing Team which offer befriending, community support and community navigator services and also hosts the Livewell Hub (01793 465513) where people can get advice, information and signposting to live a healthier and more active life.

The general public health contact is publichealth@swindon.gov.uk.
