1. Safeguarding Adults under the Care Act

2. The Safeguarding Team

The Safeguarding Team ensure that adults are protected from harm and abuse and the Council meets its statutory Safeguarding duties under the Care Act 2014.

The Safeguarding Team works to help vulnerable adults keep their independence, wellbeing and choice, and to live a life free from abuse.

Reporting Abuse and Neglect

Adults

Members of the public can raise a concern by telephone:

Tel: 0345 140 0845 (office hours) or 0151 935 3555 (outside office hours, weekends and bank holidays)

Professionals and agencies external to Sefton Council ASC should use the online referral form on the portal to raise a concern. If advice is required or the referral requires urgent action, the numbers above should be used to raise an immediate concern.

Sefton Council ASC practitioners should raise a concern using LAS:

  1. Complete a Contact with contact reason 'Safeguarding Concern'.
  2. Complete the Safeguarding Tab:
    1. In s42 under 'Safeguarding Adults Process Decision' tick all those that apply;
    2. Tick 'yes' to 'Progress to Adult Safeguarding'
    3. Finalise.

This process generates an enquiry to the Safeguarding Team.

If you are concerned that an adult is in imminent danger from abuse or neglect, or that a criminal act has taken place you should contact the police by dialing 999.

Children

Members of the public can make a referral by telephone:

Professionals and agencies external to Sefton Council Children's Social Care should follow the guidance online.

4. Safeguarding Procedures, Processes and Forms

Multi-Agency Safeguarding Procedures

Our multi-agency safeguarding procedures can be found on the Sefton Safeguarding Adults Board webpages.

They set out specifically how the Local Authority works with other organisations in the area, such as the police and the ICB to fulfil the requirements of the Care Act, including how they:

  1. Prevent and protect adults at risk from abuse;
  2. Empower and support adults to make their own choices;
  3. Investigate actual (or suspected) abuse or neglect; and
  4. Support adults who are at risk of, or experiencing abuse or neglect.

5. The role of our Safeguarding Adults Board

In line with the Care Act 2014, Sefton has a Safeguarding Adults Board (SAB).
