Allegations Against Staff or Volunteers who Work with Children

Minor amendments have been made in line with local terminology/practice.

In Section 4, Initial Response to an Allegation or Concern, the name of the police team has been changed from Child Abuse Investigation Team (CAIT) to Children and Adult Protection (CAP). In section 5, Disciplinary Process, 'If formal disciplinary action is not required, the employer should institute appropriate action within three working days ([ADDED] two days in North Tyneside).
Organised and Complex Abuse A link has been added to College of Policing: Managing Complex Child Abuse Investigations.
Information Sharing A link has been added to child sex offender disclosure scheme guidance.
Bullying This chapter has been updated to reflect Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance (updated September 2019) and reference to Upskirting which is a specific example of abusive behaviour which has been linked to on-line bullying and grooming. Upskirting is a criminal offence and, as such, should be reported to the Police.
Child Sexual Exploitation This chapter has been given a general refresh throughout. Local information remains the same.
Children Missing from Education This chapter has been revised throughout. It has been updated to add information on elective home education and unregistered schools.
Children of Parents who Misuse Substances A link has been added to the National Association for Children of Alcoholics.
Domestic Violence and Abuse A link has been added to Ending Violence against Women and Girls Strategy 2016 – 2020 (refreshed 2019).

Minor amendments have been made in line with local practice. In Section 2, Risks - previous Sunderland-specific information has been removed.

In Section 4, Protection and Action to be Taken, added: In North Tyneside there is also no minimum timescale to hold an ICPC for an unborn child.
