Chairs (for Objectivity and Independence)

Whilst the SAT have the responsibility to regularly oversee, coordinate and manage safeguarding enquiries in line with Jersey adults safeguarding policy and procedures – there are occasions when the appointment of an independent chair may assist with the objective oversight and smooth running of certain cases. This would be anticipated to be at the end stage of an enquiry – the outcomes meeting.

The use of an independent chair should be factored into the initial planning stages of enquiries. A partner agency or service can make a request for an independent chair – by writing to the Safeguarding Team Manager with a brief rationale as to the request. A response to the request will be given, with a clear rationale provided whether it is agreed or refused.
