Adult safeguarding is everyone's business and local partnership working is essential to ensure there is consistency across the Isle of Man in how vulnerable adults are safeguarded from abuse or neglect.

In the Isle of Man we embrace and promote a culture of cooperation between all our respected partners. Our collective belief in a culture of transparency, cooperation and trust is the cornerstone of our success in safeguarding our community. We have updated and modernised our multiagency safeguarding policy and procedures – recognising that safeguarding is never static. Underpinning these updates are the views and valued feedback from our citizens & partners.

we have drawn on research, and follow best practice as described in the Care Act 2014 (England) to supplement local legislation, The Safeguarding Act 2018. Our new policy and procedures are based on the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal – which we reference throughout.

Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP) is the approach that should be taken to all safeguarding work. The key principle of MSP is to support and empower each adult to make choices and have control about how they want to live their own life. It is a shift in culture and practice in response to what is now known about what makes safeguarding effective from the perspective of the adult being safeguarded.
Our policy and procedures offer a framework to support effective safeguarding interventions with a move away from process driven and prescribed responses. What this means is that adults will be more involved in defining what safeguarding means for them.
