1. Policy

To ensure that all legal requirements are met under Health and Safety and Fire regulations, as well as National Minimum Care Standards for Children's Homes, and that children and young persons living in the Home are safe.


2. Key Points


2.1 The Registered Manager for each Home is responsible for ensuring that the red Fire Log Book and Directorate and Corporate Safety Policies are appropriately implemented and maintained.
2.2 Fire evacuation drills and tests must be carried out within the Home at the appropriate frequencies and within the times specified in the Council's policies.


3. Fire Safety Procedure

The following points constitute the fire safety procedure:

  1. The Registered Manager, in the interests of the Health and Safety of all staff and residents, shall ensure that   the red Fire Log Book is implemented and maintained;
  2. The East Riding of Yorkshire Council's policy and procedures regarding Fire safety, should be followed at all times;
  3. No relaxation of any fire precaution requirement should be implemented without receiving the written advice of the Health and Safety Unit, County Hall, Beverley;
  4. On receipt of any written advice/instruction regarding any fire precaution requirement, a copy should be placed in the on-site red Fire Log Book and another copy with the on-site Fire Safety Procedure. They should be kept available for inspection. All staff to be made aware of any changes/instructions;
  5. Visitors to the home should be made aware of evacuation procedures.
