3.1.2 Staff Supervision

Recording

Please see Staff Supervision Record.

  • During each supervision the supervisor should choose up to four questions to discuss which could come from the same or different sections.
  • Each question has the reference to where it can found in the policies and procedures. This is for the supervisors reference only, the question alone should be given to the supervisee to encourage their investigation which should help them find their way around the documents.
  • The Supervisor can either inform the supervisee of the questions before hand for them to study, or ask them within the supervision and then direct further investigation where appropriate.
  • The Supervisor should take the opportunity to ensure that the supervisee is proficient in the use of the electronic version of the policies and procedures.
  • The aim is to generate discussion not to catch people out.
  • The Grading system is as follows –

  1. Demonstrated full knowledge and application of the policy and procedure.
  2. Demonstrated some knowledge and application of the policy and procedure
  3. Demonstrated little knowledge and understanding of the policy and procedure.
  4. Demonstrated no knowledge or understanding of the policy and procedure.
  • Supervisors should make use of the comments section to highlight outcomes or actions.
  • Some of the questions could be used within staff meetings to generate discussion and then recorded on each persons form.
