1. What is 'The Knowledge'?
There are more than 100 procedures in this Manual; some are very complex and detailed.
We want to ensure that they are easy to find and understandable, and we want to reassure you that you are up to date. 'The Knowledge' is designed to help us achieve that.
They are not designed to test your competence or guarantee you understand the procedures in this manual, it is designed to help you find the right procedures, inform you of decision making processes and give you the chance to tell us if a procedure needs to be amended or clarified.
2. How are the Questionnaires Presented?
Each questionnaire contains a series (up to 20) multiple choice questions, all you have to do is read each question and tick boxes to indicate the right answer(s) - sometimes more than one right answer.
3. Do I Need any Special / New Software?
The Questionnaires use 'Adobe Flash' software, which your PC or Laptop may already have installed.
If you are unable to start a Questionnaire, it's likely that 'Adobe Flash' will need to be installed. It's free, available from the 'Adobe' website – see link below.
It will take a few minutes to install.
NOTE: If you are viewing the Manual/Questionnaires from a Council or Agency intranet/site, you may need to contact your IT Department for them to install 'Adobe Flash' for you.
If you have any difficulties, please contact us – go to 'Contact Us' on the left hand side of the Manual, report your concern and we'll get back to you within a day or two.
| To download Adobe Flash Player click on the button; |
4. What if I Don't Know the Right Answer?
All the questions are based on procedures in this Manual - the answers are in the procedures.
Before you start a questionnaire, we will tell you which procedures you ought to be familiar with - if you haven't seen the relevant procedures for some time, we suggest you go away and read them.
But don't worry! If you don't know some answers or you get them wrong, you can complete the questionnaire again, until you get all the questions right.
This is not about catching you out - it doesn't matter if you get questions wrong. Just try again.
5.Refer to the Procedures Along the way
You can keep the Procedures Manual open in the background/ in a separate Window or Tab- whilst you complete the questionnaires, providing you with the opportunity to check the relevant procedures before answering.
6. Who Sees My Answers?
Before you start, you'll be asked to provide you Name, Team and Email address.
You may be asked to provide the email address of your Line Manager. However, you only need to include your Line Manager's email address if you have been requested to complete the questionnaire e.g. if you are a new member of staff and the information is required as part of your induction.
If you have not been asked to complete it by your Line Manager, you don't have to include his/her email address.
In which case, your Manager(s) do not receive copies. However a copy is saved on the system for a few days* - in case you don't receive your report/you wish to request a copy. To do this, go to 'Contact Us' on the left hand side of the Manual.
*NB: We only save copies for a couple of days, we then delete them.
7. What do I Receive at the End?
Each time you complete a questionnaire, you'll receive an email summarising the title or the questionnaire and which questions you were unable to answer correctly.
We suggest you retain this email.
If you were unable to answer key questions correctly, we suggest you retake it - familiarising yourself with the relevant procedures first!
8. What if I Keep Getting Answers Wrong?
If you are unable to answer questions correctly, even though you have checked the relevant procedure(s), it's possible that the procedure isn't clear enough.
We strongly suggest you discuss this with your Line Manager, look at the relevant procedure(s) and then tell us if you feel an amendment is required.
If you do feel a procedure should be amended, contact us - via the 'Contact us' icon on the left hand side of the Procedures Manual.
Your comments and suggestions will be raised with Senior Management and you'll be notified if an amendment is made.
9. General Council Registration
Every social worker registered with the GSCC shall, within the period of registration, complete either 90 hours or 15 days of study, training, courses, seminars, reading, teaching or other activities which could reasonably be expected to advance the social worker's professional development, or contribute to the development of the profession as a whole.
Completion of these questionnaires will contribute to this professional development, so we suggest you retain all emails forwarded to you.
10. Length/Complexity of the Questionnaire
This is not an e-learning programme, competence test or a training tool, it is a simple questionnaire.
The questionnaire will consist of up to 20 multiple choice questions and should take you up to 20 minutes to complete - assuming you are familiar with the relevant procedures. If not, you may need to familiarise yourself with procedures and/or 're-take' a questionnaire. You can do this at any time.
11. Complete the questionnaire!
Once you start a questionnaire, it's important you complete it - answer all the questions - even if you think you aren't doing well.
There is no problem if you get several questions wrong, you can retake the questionnaire as many times as you like.
12. What do I Need Before I Start?
You can complete any questionnaire you wish, at any time, but we suggest you do some homework first!
KEEP THE PROCEDURES OPEN: You can keep the Procedures Manual open in the background whilst you complete the questionnaires, providing you with the opportunity to check the relevant procedures before answering.
Go to 'The Knowledge' Questionnaires.
13. I Have Not Recieved My Results By Email
